A Tee All Their Own

20140510-115102.jpg

Forgive me for being the strange person that I am. Really it’s an affliction. Getting a late start this morning has gotten me thinking deeply about the nature of the tee shirt. More specifically, why are v-necks more popular than they are? They’re casual, yet slightly more sophisticated.

America, buy more v-neck tees.

Hobbies

A few weeks ago I wrecked my car and the accident was my fault. That left me with a decision to make about how to get around. So I picked up this New Beetle and starting customizing.

PlastiDip for the win.

I Wrote This: Windows Phone 8.1 Is an iPhone Killer, Almost

Because clearly, I was going to write about my smartphone platform of choice:

The Windows Phone 8.1 update, which will begin going out to current Windows Phone users over the next few months and show up on new devices built especially for it in May, isn’t an operating system that re-imagines a single thing. It doesn’t come equipped with some revolutionary feature that almost instantly makes the iPhone and Android devices irrelevant. Instead, it’s an operating system that plugs holes in Windows Phone’s defenses and ensures that Microsoft isn’t behind in terms of overall feature set. It also reveals the reason why some users would be better off purchasing a Windows Phone device over an iPhone or Android device for the first time.

I Like This: Richmond is ‘Happy’

Normally, I don’t get into viral videos, and I certainly am not one to post viral videos online. You know, that last post about bullies from Will Wheaton not withstanding.

However, I’m a sucker for Pharrell’s music and that vibe that Happy gives off. Imagine how giddy I was when I found a custom video for the song recorded here in Richmond on my favorite blog Young House Love. Clearly, you know where this is going.

In The World

Outside of freelancing, things have been a bit slow these last few weeks. Hoping to get in some serious writing at enConnected done over the next few weeks. Add coding to that list too, and the site has a new music writer and MVP, @tromboneforhire, that I can’t wait to begin working with.

Now playing indeed.

Hope you guys are well

“Be well. Do good work, and keep in touch.”

I thought I’d share something a little bit different. Every morning of elementary, middle and high school I woke up early (5:50 am) to be exact) and listened to two short inserts on my public radio station before everyone else in my house woke up. I finally uncovered one of them again in a podcast.

Here’s my favorite of the two, The Writers’ Almanac featuring Garrison Keillor. History, poetry and class is something more folks need in their mornings, I think.

On GameEnthus

I haven’t dived back into podcasting as part of my regular weekly stuff, but this week I appeared on the GameEnthus podcast. Had a blast and talked gaming, Star Trek, how I ended up with an Xbox and more.

I Wrote This: The Xbox One Hasn’t Lost, We All Have

“I’ve heard this nonsense over the past few months repeatedly. Saddled with a higher price than it charged users for the Xbox 360, somehow some people have gotten it into their head that Microsoft has dug a hole it can’t get itself out of with the Xbox One. You’ve probably seen them too. Long stories asking how Titanfall, the newly released first-person shooter, can “save the Xbox from its fall.” Bulleted lists of reasons how Microsoft can win back the gaming elite and ride into the sunset.”

The Costs of Doing Business

I’ve spent this past weekend in Redmond, Washington. I’ve talked with the best and spoken with friends about the worst things I think effect video games, entertainment and more.

On Monday I’ll get back to work sifting through the internet’s treasure trove of not-quite-relevant information — you know, like this post. Spending 12 hours a day pressing plastic underneath my fingertips will be the norm, and I’ll probably be as grumpy as Joe Biden listening to the Republican’s rebuttal to the State of The Union. I’ll love every minute of it.

For now, I’ll think I’ll just go back to looking up at the now brilliantly gorgeous Washington State sky and asking the one question I’ve realized that every normal person asks themselves after being in a room full of brilliant, amazing thinkers: What’s next?

Long live Xbox Summit 2014. See you guys on Monday.
